Personal Finance Spotlight

Putting the Person back in personal finance

About

My name is Jared. I’m in my mid 20’s and have struggled with poverty and debt throughout my life. I got into the same bad situation that most Americans enter into and thought I was destined to be poor and miserable forever. I decided it’s not fair, and I won’t have it. I began researching personal finance. Through long hours of research, trial and of course it’s good pal error, I’m very quickly mastering my money and am nearly 100% out of debt and getting ready to build my own financial portfolio.

School teaches you a lot. It teaches you about history, science, math and how to get rope burn. It doesn’t however teach you what you need to know to survive. Most students coming out of high school don’t know how to balance a check book, don’t understand what APY is and would have no idea how credit really works. There are mortgages, insurance policies, the federal reserve, inflation and hundreds of other things that they just never teach us.

Knowledge doesn’t just equal power, it equals money.

I have not a P.H.D in finance nor do I claim to be an expert. I in fact have no formal education in money, stock markets or banking. I do however have personal experience and the infinite resource of the internet. As do you. My goal is to share what I have learned, and to learn from others in the process, to be a part of the up and coming Personal finance community and contribute as much as I can to it’s success and the success of others.
